From blight to boom, celebrating Downtown
Dunedin’s 30th Anniversary of Community Redevelopment

Dunedin, Florida – February 16, 2019 – “Where we are standing right now was declared a blighted and dilapidated area 30 years ago.” These were Peter Kreuziger’s opening remarks at the 30th Anniversary celebration of Downtown Dunedin last month. He continued, “You are seeing, first hand, what can be accomplished when communities get together and work in a public and private partnership. At that time, all of us envisioned a vibrant downtown business community that all residents of Dunedin could be proud of. A big thank you to all that have contributed to the development of the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and to all the residents that have supported us for all of these years.”

Kreuziger was asked to speak during the opening ceremonies celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Downtown Dunedin. Together with business partner, Karl Reidl, he opened the flagship Bon Appétit Restaurant 43 years ago.  It has been in continuous operation ever since and is a landmark within the community.
For decades, many people were unaware Dunedin, Florida existed. A hidden gem, buried by the buzz of the larger cities in the area, but through dedication, collaboration and hard-work put forth by visionary business owners, city officials and residents, Dunedin was reborn into a delightful, coastal community attracting visitors from around the world.

The primary goal of the City of Dunedin is to provide a tool through the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) that will guide private and public initiatives for creating economic development, improved physical characteristics, encourage investment in downtown Dunedin, improve the quality of life for residents, and establish a framework for the proper evolution of the CRA district.
